Julia Weißenberg: Intangible Standard

HMKV Video of the Month

On view 1 – 31 January 2017

The video Intangible Standard consists of a mix of the artist’s own video footage recorded in front of a blue-screen and found video material, 3D clips and images, which the artist has woven into a dense collage. The visual material is presented on white background. In addition, pictures of a bodiless mouth reappear, reciting an extract from William Carlos Williams' Spring and All (1923). In her video Julia Weißenberg asks about the origin of the pictures, as one finds them a.o. in the advertising industry. The multiple duplications and deletions of the motifs point to the object-ness of these images as well as to their radical decontextualization. Their original meanings are partly completely erased - which is the prerequisite to become the perfect advertising surface. The video is part of the Installation Soft Company (2015) developed together with Mia Boysen.
