The HMKV is nominated for the Weststern-Art-Award

Exciting news at HMKV Hartware MedienKunstVerein: HMKV has been shortlisted for the *WESTSTERN Art Award, which honours ‘outstanding, innovative, exemplary achievements by art associations in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW)’. The aim of the *WESTSTERN Art Award is to ‘honour exceptional curatorial achievements, outstanding individual artistic presentations and lively social commitment, thereby publicly recognising the important role played by art associations in North Rhine-Westphalia in contemporary art production.’ The HMKV submitted its current solo exhibition You Can't Make This Up by Dortmund artist Silke Schönfeld to the competition. ‘We are delighted to have our work acknowledged,’ says Dr Inke Arns, curator of the exhibition and director of the HMKV, ’especially because Silke Schönfeld addresses highly topical issues in her artistic work, such as abuse in her own family or the continuity of National Socialist educational ideals in post-war West German society. Through what might appear as ‘small, personal stories,’ she reveals a larger portrait of society.’

From the almost 50 applications, the jury nominated 13 art associations across all three award categories. HMKV extends its congratulations to all those shortlisted and is especially delighted for its neighbor Dortmunder Kunstverein.

The exhibition You Can't Make This Up, shortlisted for the *WESTSTERN Art Award, can be seen on level 3 of the Dortmunder U until 2 February 2025.
