Isabella Fürnkäs & Lukas von der Gracht: Selfiecalypse Teen Hunger Ultra Death Attack 1.0

HMKV Video of the Month

On view 1 – 30 November 2016

The video Selfiecalypse Teen Hunger Ultra Death Attack 1.0 (2015) which was made in cooperation with Lukas von der Gracht is a quasi real world reenactment of a battle from a computer game – recorded with the help of selfie sticks on the park deck of a shopping center. Isabella Fürnkäs gives back an intense corporeality to the digital images than one has not seen in a long time in the world of shiny surfaces. On November 14th, 2016, Isabella Fürnkäs will be awarded with the Förderpreis des Landes NRW in the field of media art.

The German-French artist Isabella Fürnkäs (*1988 in Tokyo, lives and works in Düsseldorf) finds compelling ways to express a contemporary feeling in her video installations, drawings, collages and sculptures: We are living in times of constant media overdrive and are faced with a fragmented experience of time. Isabella Fürnkäs is part of a very young generation of artists. While still being a student at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, she is using a broad range of media in a very compelling way.

In the series HMKV Video of the Month, HMKV presents current video works by international artists for the duration of one month each – selected by Inke Arns.
