The DARPA Robotics Challenge (DRC) is a prize competition funded by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Held in the US from 2012 to 2015, it aims to develop semi-autonomous ground robots that can do "complex tasks in dangerous, degraded, human-engineered environments." (1) The video shows robots that are stumbling, falling and that seem to be drunk. But don’t be mistaken: Even if they seem to be helpless, they are not, as can be seen at the end of the video …

In the series HMKV Video of the Month, HMKV from November 2015 to February 2016, as part of the exhibition (Artificial Intelligence) Digitale Demenz, the US artist Brendan Howell is presenting a screening programme based on the videos he has selected for the project website www.ddai.de.
