Andrew Norman Wilson: Workers leaving the Googleplex

Workers Leaving the Googleplex investigates a top secret, marginalized class of workers at Google’s international corporate headquarters in Silicon Valley. As Wilson documented the mysterious yellow badged “ScanOps” Google workers, he simultaneously chronicled the complex events surrounding his own dismissal from the company. The reference to the Lumiere Brother’s 1895 film Workers Leaving the Factory situates the video within the history of motion pictures, suggesting both transformations and continuities in arrangements of labor, capital, media, and information. Andrew Norman Wilson (US, *1983) graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (Master of Fine Arts 2011) and lives and works in New York. His work has been shown at international group exhibitiond and festivals, most recently at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2014), Centre Pompidou, Paris (2014), Anthology Film Archives, New York (2014), at the Impakt Festival, Utrecht (2013), Bétonsalon, Paris (2013), transmediale, Berlin (2013), Artefact Festival, STUK Arts Centre, Leuven (2012) and at the Goethe-Institut (Max Mueller Bhavan), Calcutta (in the context of HMKV's INDUSTRIAL on Tour 2012). In 2013 he received a grant by and he was a resident at Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart.
