Dr. Inke Arns, curator of the exhibition and director of the HMKV, will talk to Niklas Goldbach about the current exhibition The Paradise Machine, the background and his artistic approach. Niklas Goldbach will then present the lecture performance Into The Paradise Machine.
In the video work, Goldbach focuses on the bungalow complexes of the Center Parcs built in the 1970s. The lecture performance juxtaposes impressions from the Center Parcs with excerpts from the diary of Dutch architect Jaap Bakema, who was responsible for designing the bungalow complexes with his office - Van den Broek and Bakema. The diary, which he wrote in 1943 as a prisoner in the German deportation camp Royallieu-Compiegnein northern France, reveals his survival and coping strategies and provides an insight into his philosophical views on nature, architecture and society.
Niklas Goldbach (*1973 in Witten) works with the media of video and photography. He lives in Berlin.
