Harmony Korine
Lotus Community Workshop
28:40 min. from the three-part episodic film "The Fourth Dimension," VICE films, 2012.
And others.
For our first film evening, Stefan Panhans and Andrea Winkler, artists of our current exhibition The Pow(d)er of I Am Klick Klick Klick and a very very bad bad musical!, have selected films that were central to the development of their new work DEFENDER (2021).
First, there is the short film Lotus Community Workshop (2012, 28:40 min.) by Harmony Korine. U.S. director Harmony Korine (b. 1973), known for the screenplay for Kids (filmed by Larry Clark in 1995), Gummo (1997), Ken Park (2002), and Spring Breakers (2012), among others, was able to get actor Val Kilmer (of Top Gun, Batman Forever fame) to play the lead role in this short film. What he didn't tell him in advance was that he would be bearing his own name in it. So here Val Kilmer plays a version of himself from an alternate reality, a former actor turned self-help guru in a shopping mall in a small American town.
Afterwards, Stefan Panhans and Andrea Winkler will show some more material.
After the screening, the two artists will talk with Inke Arns, director of HMKV and curator of the exhibition, about the films in relation to their own artistic work(s).
