For its twentieth anniversary, the HMKV will focus on its sustained commitment to artistic training and education–an important aspect of its history–by launching a new format. The first Autocenter Summer Academy (ACSA) at HMKV will be organised in close collaboration with the Berlin-based project space Autocenter, which has been successfully hosting summer academies in its venue since 2009.
The two-week program consists of courses, workshops and lectures by internationally renowned artists, art critics and curators from all fields of contemporary art (photography, drawing, painting, media, post internet art, electronic music, art criticism, curating). More than 50 participants from 18 countries have registered.
In addition, ASCA 2016 at HMKV's public lecture program will provide insights into contemporary discourse. The results will be presented to the public during two weekends: on Sat, 3 September and on Sat 10 September, at the HMKV, Dortmunder U, Level 3, between 5-7 pm. You can also come by on Sunday (4 + 11 September) – we are open from 11 am – 6 pm. From 13 - 25 September all the results oft he two-week ACSA activities will be presented. Admission is free.
ASCA 2016 at HMKV is a unique opportunity to meet and exchange with exciting artists, critics and curators. ACSA @HMKV will be hosted for the first time in Dortmund, Germany. The two-week programme consists of five courses by internationally renowned artists/ curators: Heidi Specker (professor of photography at the HGB, Leipzig), DIS (curators of the 9th Berlin Biennale, New York), Tobias Zielony (participant of the German Pavillon, Venice Biennial 2015 as well as Emscherkunst 2016), Brendan Howell (artist and reluctant engineer, Berlin) and Thibaut de Ruyter (architect, curator and art critic, Berlin). There will also be lectures and workshops by Armen Avanessian (philosopher, Berlin), Dan Perjovschi (artist, Sibiu), Suzanne Treister (artist, London), Kolja Reichert (editor for art in the culture section of FAZ, Frankfurt am Main), Mischa Kuball (artist, Kunsthochschule für Medien, Cologne), Markus Ambach (artist & curator, Düsseldorf) and others, as well as excursions to the Ruhr area.
Participants from 18 countries are joining the ACSA 2016 @ HMKV, a.o. from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Germany, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Great Britain, Italy, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, USA and Uzbekistan.
